Meet Dr. Lyons

Dr. Sarita T. Lyons who is affectionately called "Dr. Sarita" is a psychotherapist and highly sought after speaker and trainer specializing in individual, couples and family psychotherapy.

She maintains a private practice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is the founder and CEO of Uplifting People Services, Inc.  In addition to her private practice, Dr. Lyons is an adjunct professor at Drexel University's College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

With over 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist, Dr. Sarita earned a J.D. from Villanova School of Law and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Drexel University's Law and Psychology program (specializing in law and forensic and clinical psychology). With her diverse educational background and expertise, she is currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among her counseling specializations are depression and anxiety, trauma recovery, addictions, couples therapy, work and career counseling, and relationship building and reconciliation. Dr. Lyons has worked as a therapist in multiple mental health treatment settings such as a college counseling center, outpatient community behavioral health center, adult and adolescent drug and alcohol treatment facility, juvenile detention center, medical and psychiatric hospital, and the School District of Philadelphia as a contracted therapist.  Dr. Lyons was the first African American woman Board Member for the Amnion Crisis Pregnancy Center where she served as Vice-President.

In addition to being a compassionate and effective therapist, Dr. Sarita is a dynamic and informative speaker and trainer. She has presented at local and national conferences, retreats, graduations, hospitals, churches, political events, universities, corporate trainings and fundraisers. Dr. Lyons has been asked to speak on a variety of topics such as:

Her therapeutic approach is to provide biblical counseling, evidenced based treatment, and the necessary behavioral tools to help clients effectively address personal life challenges and to make lasting changes. She integrates appropriate methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client's needs.

While Dr. Lyons has diverse education and training, as a Christian she submits all secular knowledge of psychology, human behavior and psychotherapy practices under the authority of God, and she believes that the truth of God and His Word (The Holy Bible) are the foundation and the true standard and means of healing and change.  Dr. Lyons recognizes that God through His infinite wisdom and grace, has given knowledge to man. Therefore, science (medicine, psychology, psychiatry) and other disciplines of healing are not always in opposition to God and His Word. However, Dr. Lyons does not practice or uphold any doctrines, philosophies, or counseling techniques that are contrary to God's Word and nature.  Various techniques and strategies are used to assist clients with their counseling needs; however, Dr. Lyons' approach to counseling is always Christ-centered and dependent upon the Holy Spirit. 

Dr. Lyons is known for bringing heart and expertise, punctuated with fun, humor, practicality, honesty and a refreshing "realness" to her work with each individual, couple, family or organization.  She helps people, churches, and organziations face their struggles, build on their strengths, and attain the personal growth and change they are committed to accomplishing.
